Our property is a bush block. Rock, sand and clay. Into this we have breathed a self-sufficient life by mulching and unlocking the minerals in the clay. Mature trees have allowed us to create climatic gardens that make for a beautiful place to dwell in all seasons.
Our vegie patch and food forest feed us all year round. Vegetables, nuts, berries and fruit. The kitchen garden has culinary herbs from all corners of the world. The chooks live among the stone fruit and citrus. The ducks live among the apples, pears and guava. And the pigs are moved from place to place to clear and plough the ground. In our glasshouse we grow mushrooms and raise seedlings. Plants are raised in the shade house.
We open our gardens to the general public, garden clubs, permaculture students and as a means of fundraising for community groups. Bookings essential.
MUD BRICK…..SOLAR…..TANK WATER…..RECYCLING…..RETRO FITTING…..SELF BUILD
Every wall, window, arch and doorway is strategically placed for thermal management. Cool in summer. Warm in Winter. Simply a wonderful way to live with the elements.
We open our house privately and publicly several times a year. Our 40 year journey has taught us heaps.
Over the years we have personally demolished three old houses, several farm sheds and out buildings in search of materials. We have made thousands of mud bricks from the soil on our property.
Today, we live in a mud brick house which is constructed and furnished using materials sourced from more than sixty buildings in city and country new south wales. Doors from North Sydney, 1860. Cypress pine paneling from a 1902 country farmhouse. Dozens of antique stain glass windows. An old bed head turned upside down, frames an archway. A 1930’s farm sink, 2m in length services the BBQ area. Everywhere you look a story unfolds. A tour of the house at times, may take up to an hour.
We have solar grid connect and solar tube hot water. We store over 100,000 litres of rain water. Our factory seconds fibre glass swimming pool acts as an independent water tank for firefighting purposes. And of course we use the pool to cool off on hot summer days.
We like to share our experience with those who are seeking a sustainable lifestyle. Whether the focus is a refit in the suburbs or a complete tree or sea change. We share our experience and skills to help avoid costly and/or naive mistakes.
Available to councils, service clubs and community groups. Either in the form of conference, seminar, workshops, or club/interest meetings or specific promotions.
Judith as an author has extensive experience in television, radio and print media in Australia and overseas.
We conduct courses here at the property and in other locations by request.
Our experience allows us to cover a broad number of subjects.
