Harvest & Storage

Making the most of what the garden provides

Growing food doesn't end when the produce is ready to pick. At Earthkeepers, careful harvesting and storage help make the most of what the garden provides.

New Plants From Old

As a broccoli plant matures, it may begin to sprout new plants from its base.

These new plants can be gently separated from the original plant and replanted.

Harvesting Broccoli

With the right attention, a broccoli plant can continue producing for up to fifteen months.

When harvesting the main flower head, make a clean cut. The plant is then fertilised to encourage more flower heads. These later heads are generally smaller, but can be plentiful.

Each time flower heads are harvested, the broccoli plant is fertilised and mulched.

Storing the Harvest

When packaged appropriately, members of the Brassica family can have a surprisingly long fresh shelf life in the fridge.
