Seasonal Growing

Working with the weather, not against it

Growing food means adapting to the seasons and keeping a watchful eye on changing weather conditions. At Earthkeepers, observation plays an important part in deciding when food should be planted, protected and harvested.

Heavy Rain & Summer Heat

Heavy rain followed by 40°C heat can cause fruit to rot on the tree.

Summer can bring fluctuating temperatures that play havoc with fruit trees, making it important to keep a watchful eye on the weather.

Harvesting at the Right Time

After heavy rain and extreme heat, weather-scarred fruit on the dwarf Chinese Flat Peach tree was harvested in the early hours of the morning.

Despite the weather damage, the fruit was still fresh, sweet and delicious.

At Earthkeepers, food is grown throughout every season of the year, including cauliflower, broccoli and white turnips. Each season brings different conditions and lessons from the garden.
